Theatre Denison has a home! We're thrilled to announce that we have been invited to share residency with a new performance art space to be occupied by The Core Theatre of Richardson, opening in Denison in March at the former location of Tupelo Honey! All the details are below, and you'll be seeing important dates here soon, so check back often! Our first show will go up in May, but we have a couple of introductory events happening first. Exciting things ahead!

A collective space for performing and visual arts is set to arrive at Katy Depot in Denison, engineered by James Hansen Prince, founder of The Core Theatre in Richardson, TX.

A remodel is taking place inside what was most recently Tupelo Honey Bar and Grill at 130 E. Woodard, making way for the Arts Depot, which will house a 50-seat black box theatre, indoor and patio dining, full bar and back porch dining and entertainment area. An art gallery in the entry of the building will serve to showcase the work of local visual artists.

Mr. Prince plans to bring theatrical productions from The Core Theatre to run at the Arts Depot, and as well as other entertainment events, including local bands and musicians. He has invited Theatre Denison, founded in 2019 by Melodie and Jeremy Magouirk to share residency with The Core Theatre at the Arts Depot.

The restaurant will offer casual dining daily along with weekend brunch and live music and is set to open at the beginning of March. The venue will open along with an offering of scenes and music. A general audition for that production will be held by Mr. Prince from noon to 3 pm on Feb. 6 and 5-8 pm on Feb. 7 at the Arts Depot.

The Core Theatre will debut a show in April, and Theatre Denison will debut their production in May. The two theatre groups will work together to produce a full season of plays and entertainment.

Mr. Prince is interested in meeting with local artists to discuss collaboration and use of the space. He can be contacted at (214) 930-5338.

Artists are also encouraged to participate in a work day planned at the space from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, Jan. 16. Participants will get a sneak preview of remodel and have a chance to meet with Mr. Prince and Mr. and Mrs. Magouirk.
